8 Top Causes of Wrinkles

1.       Sleep deficiency

Insufficient sleep can disrupt the glucose metabolism and neuroendocrine system and weaken the immune system.  This means more wrinkles and puffiness, so make sure that you get your eight hours of beauty sleep every night.

2.       Alcohol

Enlarged pores, discoloration, and sagging are just some of the effects that drinking too much alcohol can have on the skin.  You should keep alcohol consumption to a minimum.

3.       Cigarette smoke

Most people will agree that smokers tend to look older than nonsmokers.  This is because smoking tobacco causes inflammation and prevents oxygen and nutrients from reaching the skin.  Don’t smoke cigarettes if you want to keep your skin looking youthful.

4.       Stress

Stress causes the release of the catabolic hormone cortisol which can cause the skin to thin and the blood vessels under the skin to appear more prominent.  Try relaxing activities such as yoga, meditation, walking outdoors, and spending time with friends.

5.       Lack of exercise

Inadequate exercise leads to wrinkled skin, an unhealthy body, weak bones, and a dull mind.  Exercise increases circulation and gives skin a vibrant glow.

6.       Unhealthy diet

This means an unbalanced diet consisting of processed foods, sugar, baked goods, and junk food.  Be sure to eat a healthy diet including vegetables, fruits, proteins, and healthy fats.  Try juicing!  Raw vegetable juices are powerful in fighting wrinkles by providing an acid-alkaline balance to the body.  They also cleanse the system and help eliminate wastes and toxins.

7.       Excessive exposure to the sun

Overexposure to UV rays can cause skin cancer, loss of skin elasticity, wrinkles, and liver spots.  Always wear sunglasses and sunscreen with at least SPF 30 if you are going to be spending a moderate amount of time in direct sun.

8.       Rough handling of the skin

Constant tugging, stretching, wiping, and pulling on the skin stretches out the elasticity and causes wrinkles and sagging.  Always handle skin gently when removing make-up, washing, and moisturizing.

Tip#2

Sleep on your back to prevent wrinkling caused by pressing your face against a pillow.  If you do sleep on your face, use a satin pillowcase to help prevent face creasing.
